Kung fu means skill acquired through hard work. It is generally associated with a Chinese martial art that is centuries old originating at the Shaolin Temple. There are many different styles of kung fu. My Jhong Law Horn(Mizong Lohan) is a Northern Shaolin related style of kung fu and a combination of two styles My Jhong(Mizong) meaning Lost Track and Law Horn(Lohan) meaning a type of Buddha.
My Jhong Law Horn (Mizong Lohan) aka Lost Track Buddhist Fist is an external style, with distinct internal influences. It draws on many aspects of the external Northern Shaolin Long Fist style, and the internal styles T’ai Chi Ch’uan , Pa Kua Chang and Hsing I Ch’uan, with which it is often taught in modern times. It is characterized by deceptive hand movements, intricate footwork, varied kicks, and high leaps. In execution, the style changes very quickly.
The emphasis on flexibility in Northern Shaolin styles is a guiding principle of My Jhong, and this is evident in the versatility of its attacks and the extent to which it integrates the concepts of many internal styles. An increased emphasis on mobility often comes at the price of power, but My Jhong compensates for this by providing a means for the dynamic generation of power. My Jhong’s unique fa jing (discharging of force) comes from the combination of the internal corkscrew power seen in Chen style Tai Chi Chuan and the external snapping power of Shaolin Long Fist. The result is the efficient generation of force through the dynamic motion of multiple elements of the body, the mastery of which gives a My Jhong practitioner the capability of generating force quickly and flexibly from any distance.
This system was presided over by Grand Master Yip(Yeh) Yu Ting in the twentieth century until his death in 1962 at the age of 70. A number of his students, among them Master Chi Hung Marr, Master Raymond Wong, and Master Johnny Lee emigrated from China to the North America and have continued to teach this system in locations around the U.S. and Canada.
Grand Master Johnny Kwong Ming Lee
My kung fu training began in Atlanta, GA with Sifu Mark Warner(a 4th degree Black Belt in My Jhong Law Horn & 6th degree Black Belt in the World Organization of Wushu and Kung Fu Masters of Hong Kong and long-time student of Grand Master Johnny Kwong Ming Lee) in January of 1999. I diligently trained with him until I moved away from Atlanta in May 2006. Starting in 2001 I had the privilege of training with Grand Master Johnny Kwong Ming Lee(10th Degree Black Belt in the World Organization of Wushu and Kung Fu Masters of Hong Kong) and Grand Master Chi Hung Marr(10th Degree Black Belt-World Organization of Wushu and Kung Fu Masters, President of the My Jhong Law Horn General Association of Hong Kong, Hon. President, China(H.K.) Traditional Wushu Federation and Vice President of the World Organization of Wushu and Kung Fu Masters). I would travel to Dallas twice a year to train with Grand Master Lee from 2001-2006. I had the honor of receiving my Black Belt from Grand Master Lee in February of 2007 prior to which I also trained for several months with Sifu Adam Reed(a 3rd degree Black Belt in My jhong Law Horn & 4th degree Black Belt in the World Organization of Wushu and Kung Fu Masters). From 2001-2006 I would also have the honor of training with Grand Master Chi-Hung Marr once a year. In 2009 I emigrated from the U.S. to Vancouver, BC Canada. I continue to see Sifu Mark Warner, Grand Master Lee and Grand Master Marr every year to further my martial arts training.
